- SAAG Consolidated (M) has bagged a US$78m (RM239.5m) job from Mrails Tram (Melaka) to build a 40km tram system in the state. Work will start in Feb 2011 and is scheduled for completion by May 2012.
- The 40km tram system’s main depot will be near the toll plaza at Ayer Keroh & will connect the city through 32 stations passing through the UN heritage site.
- The specifications of the system include a 1,000mm standard gauge track, involving about 20 double-car trams to cater to 120 passengers each way. The tram cars are to be fueled using NGV/Euro IV fuel to avoid excessive pollution.
